Lab Report for Acids, Bases and Neutral

The purpose of this lab is______________________________________________________

Draw a line to make a pH scale below. Label acid, base and neutral.

Today we are testing these items. Predict their pH.

To test these items, dip the paper into the substance then pull it out after one second. Give it a moment to change color then compare it to the scale on your container.

Analyze the data

Name the substances that you would consider a strong base.

Name the substances you would consider a strong acid.

Name the substances you would consider a weak base.

Name the substances  you would consider a weak acid.

Name some neutral substances.

  Graphing data:

Draw a table graph of the results of this experiment. Use graph paper, a ruler and a pencil. Make sure to run your pH scale up the vertical (y axis) side of your graph and put the items you tested along the bottom. Put them in order of pH along the bottom (x axis) of your graph. Be sure to label each side (axis) of your graph and give your graph a title.

  Conclusions:

What substances surprised you when you tested their pH?

Why did it surprise you?

Do we eat acids? Do we eat bases?

Where in our bodies would we find acids naturally? What is the purpose of those acids?

Did you run into any trouble while doing this experiment? If so, here is where you can describe anything that you feel went wrong and why. You may also discuss how you would do this differently if you performed this experiment again.
